Poly International Cinema Dongba Jinyu Store is a premium, all-digital cinema invested and constructed by Poly Film Investment Co., Ltd. in 2015. The cinema has a total floor area of over 3690 square meters, featuring 7 screening halls with a total of 1245 seats. Among them, the POLY Diamond is a brand-new luxury screening hall, spanning 19 meters in width and 10 meters in height, equipped with an extra-large seamless pure metal screen and dual-machine 4K projection devices, delivering a powerful visual impact. Simultaneously, the Dolby ATMOS QSC sound system provides audiences with a comprehensive and immersive audiovisual experience.
Poly International Cinema utilizes the QSC sound solution for all its screening halls, primarily because the owners value the QSC brand's ability to provide a complete solution adaptable to various needs. For the conventional 5.1/7.1 halls, QSC offers a full range of DCS screen main channel family products, ranging from ultra-thin models suitable for small environments to 4-frequency 4-way drive models for large halls seeking the utmost enjoyment. This flexibility allows owners to find a balance between product performance, budget, and desired effects. Additionally, QSC offers a variety of models and installation methods for surround speakers to meet diverse requirements in decoration and installation. In addition to QSC's industry-quality assurance and cutting-edge technological expertise in film products, intricate industrial design details also play a significant role in impressing customers. For example, QSC's surround speakers have inverted phase holes located above the cabinet, avoiding the uneven dust shadows that can form over time on the dust cover, subtly enhancing the overall installation and decorative visual aesthetics.
In the regular halls, the project utilizes the QSC DCA series amplifiers, known as a leader in professional cinema amplifiers within the industry. Apart from cost-effectiveness, the DCA amplifiers excel in performance and full-band power output under low-ohm loads, a feat challenging for other brands to match. For instance, the DCA1622 ensures long-term operation at 1.6 ohms. The dedicated Dataport audio transmission and monitoring interface not only facilitates remote monitoring of the entire system but also ensures a quick and clean connection in the equipment rack, without unnecessary and distracting signal lines.
The combination of QSC's DCP processor, amplifiers, and speakers in the B-loop system is referred to as SystemSynergy, where 1 + 1 + 1 > 3. Compared to other systems, a complete QSC product system unleashes greater potential and utility, providing additional value-added features and services for owners.
The highlight of the project is the Diamond (Diamond 1) hall. The hall's decorative design features large facets (similar to diamond cutting), creating a futuristic and surrealistic atmosphere. Surround speakers are concealed behind decorative surfaces, complementing the extra-large seamless pure metal screen to achieve a high-end and ultra-modern overall hall effect. The sound system utilizes Dolby ATMOS, creating a three-dimensional audio feast and becoming a major attraction for the cinema audience.
The Dolby ATMOS system itself requires a continuous sound pressure level of 99dB for a single surround speaker at the optimal listening point, a criterion often challenging for conventional cinema surround speaker designs. Particularly in this project, with the presence of decorative materials obstructing and the attenuation caused by styled speakers, designing surround speakers presented a significant challenge. In the end, we adopted the innovative QSC SR-1290 surround speakers to realize the system design intent. The SR-1290, a 12-inch coaxial speaker with a long stroke, is designed for applications, including Dolby ATMOS, and its 4-ohm impedance design allows it to draw more power from the amplifier. The SR-1290 is equipped with various accessories to meet different immersive sound format installation requirements for walls and ceilings.
The technical advantages and highlights of this system lie in the fact that the entire audio signal processing, distribution, and transmission are completed within the network. The Dolby ATMOS audio signal, decoded by the CP850, is directly sent via Ethernet to a QSC Q-SYS Core500i. After processing by the Core500i, the signal is routed separately through the Q-LAN network protocol to each DPA-Q network amplifier. QSC is one of the few manufacturers capable of providing a complete processing and transmission solution for different immersive sound formats. The increased independent amplifier channels and speaker quantities in the new immersive sound format contribute to the management, routing, and monitoring operations of large systems with numerous audio signals. The QSC Q-SYS platform, combined with the new DPA-Q network amplifiers, is an excellent choice for such applications: a fully digital and networked system that is suitable for various sizes of immersive sound formats. Moreover, a single CORE can handle and manage all audio signals and control signals for multiple halls or even the entire cinema, providing hot backup capabilities. For instance, maintenance personnel at Poly Jinyu Cinema can operate their customized user control interface on a computer, iPad, or their smartphone, monitoring the entire system and individual devices in real-time. The system can automatically generate alerts, send alert emails to management personnel, operate lights, and control other third-party devices. Additionally, it can integrate with the fire emergency system, automatically switching to evacuation signals and initiating the projector shutdown procedure in emergency situations.
It is worth noting that the DPA and DPA-Q amplifiers are also QSC's new flagship products for the cinema market. These two amplifiers, equipped with DSP and network transmission functions, feature QSC's new technological achievement—FAST power flexible combination technology. Channel bridging has always been a technical challenge, requiring two channels to be completely consistent to achieve an effect similar to increasing current in parallel batteries. QSC has developed new amplification devices that not only enable instantaneous high voltage and high-power output but also flexibly bridge or combine each channel of the 4-channel amplifier, achieving high-power output in a low-impedance state. The flexibility of channel combinations brings great convenience and practicality to end users.
In the implementation of the Poly International Cinema Dongba Jinyu Store project, through the continuous innovation of our professional film technology engineers and the support of QSC's technical expertise, this screening hall has become an advanced showcase project designed by our company. The powerful QSC processor, coupled with QSC amplifier technology and the mature and reliable QSC professional cinema speaker series, allows Poly customers to enjoy a premium cinematic experience.
