July is not only the peak tourist season in Kunming but also the most beautiful time of the year. With blooming flowers and vibrant celebrations of various ethnic groups, the city comes alive with festivities.
When talking about Kunming, the iconic attraction is the "Plateau Pearl - Dian South Marsh"! The scenery along the lake is picturesque, with the Grand View Tower being the perfect spot to appreciate the beauty of the lake. The panoramic view from the tower rivals the charm of Hangzhou's West Lake with its "Three Pools Mirroring the Moon"! Xishan Longmen provides a celestial perspective overlooking Dianchi Lake...
Wait a minute... today, we won't discuss Dianchi Lake, the Grand View Tower, or Xishan Longmen. Instead, let's talk about something you haven't seen before - Colorful Yunnan.
Colorful Yunnan · Joy World, as the core part of the "Colorful Yunnan · Ancient Dian City" cultural tourism area, officially opened on July 5th. The park comprises seven major themed areas: Dian Army Camp, Fantasy Dian Territory, Childhood Dream World, Myriad Tribes, Primordial Enclave, Frosty Moon Cold Island, and Four Seasons Flower Sea, offering a total of 81 amusement projects.
Perhaps some friends might say, "I've been there, seen it all! What else is there for me to discover?"
Prepare yourself for something extraordinary...
Only heard, not seen! In the professional field, we call it an audio system (Colorful Yunnan · Joy World employs the ControlMax theme park solution provided by PCI Company). When you see the term "audio system," you might think of background music, park broadcasts, and various types of speakers.
In simple terms, this audio system also includes audio source equipment (such as microphones, players, etc.), processors (here referring to the QSC Q-SYS™ Network Audio Processing Platform, combining core functions like mixing, processing, management, and control), power amplifiers, and the well-known speakers. Q-SYS™ is a network audio processing platform introduced by the American company QSC. It serves as the sole platform for signal transmission, function management, operation control, and more in the entire audio system.
Background music in the park, special effects music in amusement projects, theme music for float parades, as well as missing person broadcasts and emergency broadcasts, are all centrally controlled and managed through the Q-SYS™ platform. It can also control and manage video equipment or third-party devices. Based on such powerful audio, video, and control functions, PCI Company, drawing on extensive experience in various theme park projects, developed the ControlMax theme park solution, which has been applied in multiple theme parks.
Here's a little secret: PCI Company has been involved in the construction of audio systems for almost all theme parks nationwide. Next time you visit animation-themed parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong, pay attention! Whether it's Wanda, Happy Valley, Fantawild, Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Liuzhou Kalu Star Planet Theme Park, or the Huayi Brothers Movie World, which opened on July 23, gather your friends in Suzhou...
What did you say? "Colorful Yunnan has seven major themed areas, and each area is further divided into multiple sub-areas based on different amusement facilities. All these areas are integrated into a single system for management and control, and there must be quite a few professional operators, I presume."
Actually, under normal circumstances, it's unmanned!
After adopting the ControlMax theme park solution, the park achieved unattended operation for routine events. Through the monitoring interface in the control room, real-time monitoring of the status of all hardware devices can be accomplished. Every speaker's content can be monitored in real-time.
The park's broadcasting system simultaneously serves as background music and can set different background music for different areas, achieving multi-track playback and scheduling settings for playback content and priority settings.
For example, during emergency broadcasts, such as searching for people or emergency evacuation broadcasts, the park's background music, performance music, and special effects music all step aside. Emergency broadcasts do not overlap with any music; they have the highest priority.
These are just small examples. Let me tell you something more interesting: the theme float parade!
Speaking of theme float parades, we more commonly call them float processions. Each float has its independent audio system, but the system structure is much simpler. It typically consists of an audio processor that sends the music signal to a power amplifier, which then amplifies the music signal and sends it to the speaker. However, there's an additional device on the float called a position sensing device. For its specific function, continue reading...
I don't know if you, dear friends, have noticed while watching float parades that the thematic music we hear plays simultaneously from both the float and roadside speakers.
How is the synchronization of music achieved between the float and roadside?
This brings us to PCI Company's ControlMax Intelligent Float Parade System. In simple terms, it utilizes the position sensing devices carried on the floats. Through the GPS positioning system, it determines the real-time location information of each float and transmits this information wirelessly to the Core processor. The processor then sends the corresponding music content to the QSC CXD-Q Network Digital Power Amplifier. The music signal is played by the 78 speakers along the parade route at the corresponding positions of the float as it moves. Although this process may seem complex when described, the transmission, processing, and playback of this signal are virtually delay-free. Hence, when we watch float parades, we hardly notice any latency.
And that's how the synchronization between float and roadside speakers is achieved!
Is it over? Well, here's a little anecdote...
Entering July, Kunming has entered the rainy season, with brief showers almost every day. Various regions across the country have experienced several heavy rains.
A few days ago, a construction worker in the park suddenly said to PCI's engineer, "Your speakers are really good quality; they can still be used after being soaked in water for two days!"
What's the story behind this?
It turns out that a lamppost in the park needed replacement. For some reason, the construction worker only removed the lamppost but did not replace it that day. They temporarily placed the 3 QSC AD-S6T speakers and lighting equipment from the lamppost in the manhole. Unexpectedly, it rained heavily that day, and the rainwater filled the manhole, submerging the speakers and lighting equipment for a full two days.
After taking them out and drying them, the lighting equipment was completely damaged, but the speakers were still working normally. Upon learning of this situation, PCI's engineer immediately conducted a comprehensive inspection of the water-soaked speakers, including the enclosure, interfaces, units, etc. The speakers' frequency response, sound quality, and sound pressure level were all normal!
The entire park uses more than a hundred AD-S6T speakers, which support constant voltage and constant impedance working modes, and have an IP54 waterproof rating. The working environment for speakers in theme parks is usually harsh. Besides exposure to wind and rain, the ambient temperature can reach as high as 40-50 degrees Celsius
